WHO IS SEATTLE CULTISH HERO DAVID N. DONIHUE in 2017?

It's been a long time since I have posted about David N. Donihue. I think it was 2012 when I last put pen to paper on this blog to pay tribue to him. Recently, I got in touch and asked him to share with me his favorite works from these past five years. Now, please remember, this guy was a freak in Seattle and was making a ton of stuff for years in basements and warehouses. Many thought he was nuts. He also, was constantly doing something so far outside of what others do. So I just kept following his work. I am a fan for over 20 years, from the black box theaters to screens to youtube.

When I read he a went from features back into music videos, I was very surprised. This guy had a passion for storytelling I thought. Then I watched all of them - and at first was so happy others thought his stuff was amazing too. He now gets millions of people watching his stuff. And no, his music videos aren't traditional. You rarely see someone singing. They are AMAZING short films and he did one after another after another. And his film THE BANG BANG BROKERS is scheduled for release at end of the year. Crazy Mr. Donihue, you never lost your heart and your stillaa fucking bad ass. Like, more badass now, than ever.

David was always a wierd writer and really experimental visualist. He sopent night after night projecting his experimental live projected images in clubs and on the sides of buildings in his early twenties. He was always making heads turn with his eye. Tonight, I saw his video for KSI's TRANSFORMING. It;s hard not to think it comes from a personal place, given how much adversity artists go through when they are outside of the mold. Yet that aside, the videos been out 2 weeks and 6 million people have watched it on youtube. Fuck Donihue, you're probably gonna be huge soon.

So apprently this micro budget big action film took him years to make but is now coming out. I saw a preview three months ago as part of a test he sent out to a few on his mailing list. It's mind blowingly smart, inspiring and hilarious. Here's the trailer:

Here's a few of his other short forms that have been released as music videos. The number of these is alarming. Some are tiny budgets but some look huge. I can't believe the rest of the world found the kid in the basements of sea town.

The video above is the best music video I have ever seen in my life. Seemed more like his early plays that THE BANG BANG BROKERS. Just really human stuff. So good.

Not long after he made a video called SOLDIER for Breathe Carolina and Blasterjaxx that takes on a topic that is very real today. Kelly Hughes interviewed Donihue for The Huffington Post.
